=> PP drum filter as an effective pre-filter

In a koi pond, the best way to filter the water is to combine several filter systems. So that the actual filter does not clog up too quickly and can do a good job, it is advisable to install a pre-filter that removes dirt particles from the water. PP drum filters are among the profit pond filters in this area. These are made entirely of the solid plastic polypropylene (PP) and are therefore very light. Furthermore, this material is robust and heat-resistant. They are in no way inferior to the stainless steel drum filters, but they are unbeatable in price.

How the PP drum filter works

In the PP drum filter there is a drum, also made of polypropylene, which acts as a sieve. This is covered with a stainless steel net with a mesh size of 75 µm. Dirt particles up to this size are filtered out of the water. This is purely mechanical filtering. Pump-driven or by gravity, the water is transported through the drum. Every PP drum filter can be converted into one of the two operating modes in just a few simple steps.
The dirt particles are held back by the drum screen. This increases the flow resistance. A sensor detects the degree of soiling of the sieve. If the pores are clogged, a signal automatically triggers a flushing process. There are spray nozzles distributed over the entire drum, which wash out the dirt particles using strong pressure and flush them directly into the dirt drain. The rinsing process runs with filtered pond water and this is then discharged via the dirty water drain as a waste product of the drum filter. Since it is dirty water, it must not be fed back into the pond. If you want to install a PP drum filter on the pond, there must be a constant water level.

The PP drum filters can be supplied with or without a flushing pump. Connecting a flushing pump is not a problem. A control is included. Even if the drum filter runs automatically, manual flushing can be triggered via the control.

Advantages of a PP drum filter

The PP drum filters are among the best, solid pre-filters on the koi pond and have some advantages.

Most reliable filter for fully automatic cleaning of the pond water
low operating costs
electricity is only consumed when cleaning
energy-saving technology
thanks to polypropylene light filter
Suitable for high water circulation rates of 22,000 liters / h up to 150 liters / h
Robust and durable
No exchange of filter materials
Relief of biological filter systems
Easy handling
Dry installation possible
Combination with bio chambers
The PP drum filter is a purely mechanical filter that filters the dirt particles out of the water through its sieve. The subsequent biological filtering, in which bacteria break down pollutants in the water, takes place in the downstream filter. There is also the possibility to combine the PP drum filter with a PP bio chamber -> (https://www.hanako-koi.de/teichtechnik/teichfilter/trommelfilter/bk60-biokammer-mit-belueftungsplatte). A filter medium on which the bacteria can settle can be placed in this bio-chamber. Oxygen, which the bacteria use for their metabolism, is brought into the biochamber via a ventilation plate. At the same time, a vortex is created in the chamber so that the water reaches all areas.

If a filter with modules is already available and this is to be converted to a PP drum filter, then there are the slide-in models . These can be integrated into an existing housing without any problems.

With the PP drum filters you get a solid, robust drum filter for the effective pre-filtering of the koi pond.
